Veteran’s Day Potluck Dinner

Gann Valley Community Center – Main Street, Gann Valley

The Abernathy American Legion Auxiliary will be hosting their annual potluck dinner to honor all local
veterans and their families.  Please bring a cold/hot dish to share.  Drinks and tableware will be provided.

St. Placidus Duncan Church 125-Year Celebration
Sunday, August 26, 2012 – Mass begins at 10:30 a.m.
St. Placidus Duncan Church – 10 miles North & 3½ miles West of Gann Valley

The celebration will begin with a 10:30 a.m. Mass.  Bishop Paul J. Swain, Sioux Falls, and Father Jim
Friedrich, Wessington Springs, will officiate.  Following the service, there will be a potluck dinner.  
Beverages, dishes and buns will be provided.  Following the meal, the celebration will include games,
displays, and some surprises.  The church history booklet is being updated, and souvenirs will be
available.  Poster boards will be set up for anyone who would like to display pictures or history information

End-of-Summer Dance
Saturday, August 25, 2012 – Starts at 9:00 p.m.
Gann Valley Fire Hall – Main Street, Gann Valley

A free dance will be held with music provided by local favorite, the South Hand Band.  No beer or coolers
allowed.  Bring your own bottle; the Abernathy American Legion Post #16 will be selling beer and set-ups
(ice included).  Lunch will available for purchase.  Sponsored by the Beal Ranch of Gann Valley.
Gann Valley Community Picnic

Gann Valley Fire Hall – Main Street, Gann Valley

Everyone is welcome – come one, come all!  Enjoy some good ol’ fashioned homemade cookin’ while
visiting and reminiscing with neighbors, family, and friends.  Please bring a cold/hot dish to share.  Drinks
and tableware will be provided.

St. Placidus Duncan Cemetery; Spring Hill Cemetery; Gann Valley Legion Hall

In honor and with respect to veterans and active military, both in Buffalo County and around the country, the
Abernathy American Legion and Auxiliary Post #16 will be presenting Memorial Day services at the following
locations on Monday, May 28, 2012.  Keynote Speaker – Jim Anderson

  • 9:30 a.m. – Legion Post Colors at St. Placidus Duncan Cemetery
  • 10:30 a.m. – Program at Gann Valley Legion Hall, followed by Legion Post Colors at Spring Hill   
  • 12:00 p.m. – Potluck dinner at Gann Valley Legion Hall.  Everyone is invited to bring a cold/hot dish to
    share.  The Auxiliary will provide drinks and tableware.
Spring Hill Cemetery Work Day

Spring Hill Cemetery – 1 mile East of Gann Valley

Volunteers are requested for a work day at the Spring Hill Cemetery on Saturday, May  5th, starting at 10 a.
m.  No mowers are required.
Easter Egg Hunt

Buffalo County Courthouse Lawn – Main Street, Gann Valley

Come join the fun at the annual Easter Egg hunt!  This event is free and open to the public, just bring your

Community Supper

Gann Valley Fire Department – Main Street, Gann Valley

Rex Zastrow has been selected as a winner in America’s Farmers Grow Communities program.  As a
winner, he received $2,500 to be given to a non-profit organization of his choice, the Gann Valley Fire
Department.  The award, made possible by the Monsanto Fund, will be presented on Wednesday evening,
March 14, at 7:00 p.m. at the Gann Valley Fire Department before their annual meeting.  Lunch will be
served.  Everyone is welcome to attend.
